Old World Christmas: Spokane, WA ( please email Sara if you are interested in the position)
"Chief Executive Officer” for Old World Christmas (OWC) - one of the largest designers of figural glass Christmas ornaments, accessories and related decor in the U.S. Founded in 1979, the Company sells more than 1,500 unique SKUs through nearly 2,500 accounts. Its primary customer base consists of independent retailers including Specialty Gift, Specialty Christmas, and Garden Centers. Additionally, both Amazon and DTC have become important channels in the past several years. Company revenue has grown each of the past 5 years with a healthy margin. The current CEO is retiring and will be a supportive resource to his successor’s transition.
In 2014, Gladstone Investment Corporation (NASDAQ:GAIN) acquired OWC. Gladstone is a public company (unlike most PE firms), so they deploy a very different strategy in terms of when and how they sell an asset. On behalf of Gladstone and OWC, we’re seeking a dynamic CEO who can continue to expand the business by successfully executing a renewed growth strategy that leads the company to an attractive exit within a 3-5 year time frame. The ideal candidate profile is an omnichannel business unit leader of a consumer brand that sells both through Ecommerce channels and traditional retailers.
This CEO position is based at OWC’s headquarters in Spokane, WA. While the Board would prefer that this CEO live in Spokane, a commuting arrangement will work, ideally with the CEO living within 2-3 hours, by air (cities include: Seattle, Portland, Salt Lake City, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Denver, all of which offer non-stop flights to Spokane).
The candidates we’re seeking have the following experience profile:
-
Consumer Sales or Marketing – Foundational experience in B2B/B2C Sales or Brand
-
Ecommerce Foundation – Strong capability in Online Selling (incl. Amazon)
-
Industries – Gifts, Collectibles, Apparel, Home Décor, Footwear, Furniture
-
Digitally-Savvy – Skilled at Display, Retargeting, Search, Social, Email, Web Video
-
Functional Leadership – Skilled at developing others; building systems & relationships
-
Private Equity – Ideally, experience in the PE environment, including a successful exit
